Why is every harness set different?
A harness set holds a pulley, quick links and cords, but its contents change with the jacquard, the fabric and the harness height. Here's what we need to know to quote the right set.

A message that starts with “we need harness sets” usually gets a question back: which jacquard, which fabric? A harness set isn’t one standard product. Two sets with the same name may not swap between two looms.
What’s in a harness set?
A set usually contains:
- Pulley: passes the movement from the jacquard hook to the cord line.
- Quick links: connectors that join the parts; a set usually has two.
- Short and long cords: tie the pulley to the parts above and below.
Some sets are knotted. Whether yours should be depends on the loom.
What changes the contents?
The jacquard make. Stäubli, Bonas, Grosse and Jakob Müller jacquards use different connectors. A Stäubli quick link is not a Bonas quick link.
The fabric. Velvet and carpet jacquards use pulley harness systems. Label looms need pulley harness cord made to a different size.
Harness height. Cord lengths follow the distance between the jacquard and the loom and the harness plan. If the lengths are off, the shed won’t open properly.
Harness cord
Harness cord is one of the hardest-working parts of the harness; it moves up and down all the time the loom runs. At Güryay Tekstil we braid our own harness cord, so we can make the length and knots to suit your loom.
To order the right set
Include these in your message and the quote comes faster:
- Jacquard make and model,
- The fabric (velvet, carpet, labels…),
- A photo of the old set and cord lengths if you have them,
- Quantity.
If you’re renewing the whole harness, it’s better for us to propose the harness sets together with heddles, springs and cord. The parts are chosen to match, so there are no fit problems later.
